Workshop helps bring yoga to the classroom

Yoga teacher Melissa Verton Rinvold teaches Smart Movement 1 certification training workshops for instructors

Melissa Verton Rinvold teaches Smart Movement I certification training workshops for instructors with sessions on April 30 and May 28.

The Smart Movement I program emphasizes participation in one’s own health care and well-being for students and teachers of all ages. The program fulfills the 2008 provincial mandate for 30 minutes of daily activity in the classroom and is used in schools across the province.

“The program contributes to improved grades, attendance, communication skills, social interaction and increased energy at physical, mental and emotional levels,” said Rinvold, a kinesiologist with more than 40 years experience in yoga practice and instruction. She has also written yoga manuals.

The Smart Movement I with Notes for Teachers and Therapists is a three-hour workshop which will provide the ability to use primary level yoga safely and effectively in the classroom or sports field.
