Why do people of different faiths have items of clothing that are important to them? What are religious holidays like in different faiths? How can art and music help people share their own faith and learn about others?
The Inter-Faith Art Workshops Feb. 4 and 18 provide a place to learn about the rich faith traditions of the community. The workshops, organized by the Inter-Faith Bridging project, feature interactive presentations with skilled artists and knowledgeable speakers.
Saturday’s workshops are: Bhangra/Latino Dance (part 1) with Rajan Baha and Carmen Ruiz; Drumming for the Earth (part 1) with Robin Genthon; Experimental Art with Akira Hanson and Barbara Hartley; Faith Fashions with Sana Mohammed; Meditation with Rev. Dr. Lawrence Mascarenhas; Prayer Shawls with Maureen Thiel and Religious Holidays with Margaret Sanford.
The Feb. 18 workshops are: Bhangra/Latino Dance (part 2); Drumming for the Earth (part 2); Faith Art History with Heidi Maddess and Maya Philpotts; Music with Lindsay Lundquist; Mizuhiki (Japanese art form) with Arnie Hayashi; and woodcarving with Wayne Lariviere and Mollie Bono.
The Inter-Faith Bridging project activities also include the Sacred Spaces Tour, learning about and visiting four local places of worship Feb. 11; the Diversity Health Fair with Dr. Art Hister, booths, food demos and entertainment March 16; and the Potluck Gala March 17.
