World Day of Prayer coming March 4

World Day of Prayer will be held in Barriere at the Church of St Paul on March 4, at 1:30 p.m.

On March 4, Christians in more than 170 countries and in 2,000 communities across Canada will gather to learn about, pray for, and celebrate Cuba in solidarity with the women of Cuba through the World Day of Prayer.

The service is written by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Cuba, “Receive children. Receive me.” Christian Women in Socialist Cuba.

“Every year, women of different countries promote this day and have women pray for oppressed women in various countries,” says spokesperson Jan Baker. “This year, the feature country is Cuba and the service transmits their witness and experience of being Cuban and Christian.”

World Day of Prayer has its roots in an ecumenical day of prayer organized by women in Canada and the United States in 1920.

It became the international World Day of Prayer in 1922, and is celebrated on the first Friday of March.

A local World Day of Prayer will be held in Barriere at the Church of St Paul on March 4, at 1:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
