Escape the distractions of day-to-day life and concentrate on writing that book you’ve been working on. Award-winning North Island author Paula Wild is offering intensive writing workshops at Sea Watch Cabins on Vancouver Island’s West Coast this spring.
Manuscript to Book – Key Elements to Success is a guide to preparing your work for publication. The course is open to anyone working on a book-length manuscript be it a family memoir, local history, contemporary novel or something in between.
“Whether you’ve completed your manuscript, stalled in the middle or are still in the idea stage, Manuscript to Book will motivate you to take the next step,” Wild says. “And a limited enrollment of five means lots of personal attention.”
Sea Watch Cabins is located on a privately owned island in Nutchatlitz Provincial Park adjacent to Nootka Island. Hosts for the retreat are long-time residents, Shannon Bailey and Brian Witt.
The workshop includes stimulating group sessions and a private meeting with Paula for feedback on your work or book idea. Full manuscript evaluation is available by prior arrangement. There will also be time to write, hike and kayak.
“Among other things, participants will learn valuable skills regarding focus, point of view and the editing process,” Wild says. “I’ll also discuss how to find a publisher and the pros and cons of working with a traditional publisher or self-publishing. And everyone will learn how to create a practical plan for completing their manuscript.”
Now a Comox Valley resident, Wild lived in Sointula for 13 years. Her first writing job was as a columnist for the North Island Gazette. Since then she’s written thousands of articles, a privately commissioned memoir and four books, most of which appeared on the Vancouver Sun Bestseller List soon after publication.
Two sessions will be held for five participants each from May 27-31 and June 17-2. Registration deadline for the May workshop is April 30.
An all-inclusive fee of $740 covers the workshop, accommodation and meals, as well as round-trip water transportation from Tahsis. Carpooling to Tahsis will be arranged. Full payment and writing to be evaluated must be received by April 30 for the May workshop and May 24 for the June course.
