Dark chocolate and yoga are both well-known as having health benefits for the body.

And on Saturday, the two will be combined in a special Chocolate Yoga workshop.

Facilitated by yoga teacher Satyama Lasby with Open to Bliss Productions, the workshop invites participants to experiment with the bean and the body, to move this natural medicine through the system in a specially designed yoga practice involving asana, dance and physical interaction.

“This will target the digestion of organic cacao in a way where we become more aware of its internal euphoric effects,” said Lasby. “Ceremony, tantra and the magic of cacao are united in order to open and connect with our bodies and with others in the group in a meaningful yet playful way.

“Cacao is a superfood, widely known for its stimulating effects and antioxidant properties. With its ability to both stimulate the nervous system and relax the muscles in the body through magnesium found in the cacao bean, this celebratory workshop brings both balance and joy to the body and mind, from a heart-centred space — besides, during the workshop, you get to enjoy the best chocolate ever in various forms served at various times with products brought in from my recent trip to Costa Rica.”

Lasby is a veteran yoga teacher with qualifications from Integrative Yoga Therapy, Sivananda, Vinyasa and Agama Yoga traditions. She has taught at the Osho International Meditation Resort in India, Pachamama in Costa Rica, the Yoga House in Guatemala and across Canada for more than 15 years.

The workshop takes place Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Innter Light Yoga Studio in Vernon. Participation is by suggested donation of $20 per person. Registration is not absolutely necessary, but an RSVP is appreciated to give Lasby an idea of how much chocolate to bring along to the workshop. RSVP to info@opentobliss.com.
