Chilliwack RCMP are looking for a man who pepper-sprayed an 85-year-old woman and stole her purse Saturday morning.
The woman was pushed to the ground in the attack, which occurred at 11:30 a.m. outside a residence in the 4500 block of Patten Avenue. She sustained minor injuries and is recovering.
The suspect is described as a caucasian male, possibly in his 40s with short, brownish hair, 5’7”, medium build wearing a short-sleeved shirt and plaid shorts. The suspect drove away in a newer, possibly beige or light coloured Kia, Soul-style of vehicle.
“The General Investigation Support Team has taken over conduct of this investigation,” said Const. Cynthia Kershaw. “Robberies and crimes against people are always taken seriously by police, but when it involves the abuse of a senior citizen it makes it difficult to understand why someone would commit a crime such as this.”
Police are asking any witnesses who may have seen the incident or have any information to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604 792-4611, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
