Local candidates are gearing up for the upcoming provincial election, with the NDP’s candidate for Abbotsford West opening his office on Saturday and the area’s three BC Liberal candidates holding a campaign fundraiser kickoff breakfast Monday morning.

With the writ set to drop tomorrow, the NDP’s Preet Rai got a headstart with the opening of his office Saturday. Several dozen supporters were on hand when The News visited, along with Rai’s campaign chairman, and fellow school trustee, Stan Petersen.

Meanwhile, local BC Liberal MLAs Mike de Jong (Abbotsford West), Simon Gibson (Abbotsford-Mission) and Darryl Plecas (Abbotsford South) hosted a campaign kickoff breakfast and fundraiser Monday morning for around 200 supporters.

Last week, the upcoming race became clearer after the naming of two Green and two NDP candidates. Here’s our story from Friday’s paper on the upcoming election and the challenges facing the BC Liberals, NDP and Greens.
