Local police officer Craig Burridge will participate in Ride2Survive this year, a grueling 400-km bike ride from Kelowna to Delta, climbing 12,000 feet in 19 hours on June 21.

Though Burridge signed up for the ride before he had really been personally affected by cancer, in February he lost his father to the disease.

His father Steven, 73, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in January. A month later he had his first round of chemotherapy. Though Steven was in high spirits and told his son he was ready for the fight, the next morning he was dead.

Burridge will ride in honour of his father, and donations to his ride can be made at ride2survive.ca or click here to donate to Burridge.

The Ride2Survive is the Canadian Cancer Society’s largest independent fundraising event and is 100 per cent volunteer-driven.

This year, 140 riders between the ages of 14 and 67 will take on the challenge with a total fundraising goal of $300,000.
