McDonald Park in Abbotsford was a prime gathering spot on Sunday night for watching the Perseid meteor shower.
The park, located at the end of No. 3 Road west of Highway 1, is considered one of the best places in the Lower Mainland to watch a meteor shower.
It is one of the few parks in Canada with the “dark-sky preserve” designation – an area in which no artificial light is visible and measures are in place to ensure the reduction of light pollution.
The Perseid meteor shower is expected to reach its peak tonight (Monday, Aug. 12), when as many as 100 meteors an hour could shoot across the sky.
Viewers should wait until after 9 p.m. to begin looking for meteors, with the ideal time just after midnight.
