The presidents of five Vancouver Island-based post-secondary institutions are teaming up to form the Vancouver Island Public Post-Secondary Alliance.
Ralph Nilson, president and vice-chancellor of Vancouver Island University, and his counterparts from Camosun College, North Island College, Royal Roads University and the University of Victoria signed an agreement yesterday. Among the initiatives in which the five will collaborate are improving the ability of students to transition between institutions and the ability to access education and training at Island post-secondary institutions.
According to a news release, other initiatives include increasing the participation and success of aboriginal students and meeting the educational and regional employment training needs of the Island and communities across the province.
“Vancouver Island’s public post-secondary institutions form a dynamic ecosystem of diverse educational opportunities providing student access to high-quality learning environments and outcomes directly linked to the demands of B.C.’s work force needs,” said Nilson. “This agreement helps to solidify relationships that increase efficiency and opportunity for B.C. students.”
