As part of continued rotating teacher strikes, all local School District #27 (SD27) schools will be shut down to classes on Monday (June 2).
The province-wide rotating teacher strikes take place June 2-6 (except on June 4), with each district once again experiencing one-day shutdowns.
The British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) rotating strikes prompted SD27 superintendent Mark Thiessen to prepare an updated information bulletin on May 29, so parents know what’s happening with the one-day closures.
Although school buildings will continue to be open and principals and vice-principals will be present, there will be no teachers, supervision or instruction available, he says.
“For safety reasons, I ask parents keep all children home from classes on June 2. I will be directing the buses not to run [that day].”
No programs will be running in district schools on June 2, including all StrongStart programs, before- and after-school daycares or spaces used by community user groups.
Classes and programs will resume as usual on June 3.

School principals will also be able to provide parents with information.
In the event that the rotating strikes continue to the following week, Thiessen says another parent information bulletin will be sent home in advance of the date selected by the BCTF.
