A Vernon businessman says he’s ready to represent the community’s interests in Victoria.
Scott Anderson, who is a freelance writer, was acclaimed as the B.C. Conservative candidate for Vernon-Monashee during a nomination meeting at the Schubert Centre Saturday.
“I am humbled and very honoured by the level of support I’ve received,” said Anderson.
Anderson is quick to dismiss infighting within the party and some calls for leader John Cummins to resign.
“Despite the minor bump in the road that originated from a small, noisy group of dissidents in Vancouver, it’s important to note that according to the most recent Angus Reid poll we’re neck and neck with the B.C. Liberals in the Interior,” said Anderson.
“Within a month, I anticipate we’ll have passed the Liberals and be challenging the NDP. By next May, Vernon-Monashee voters will have a clear choice between the tax-and-spend NDP and the common-sense Conservatives. The Liberals simply won’t matter anymore.”
Cummins spoke to about 50 members in attendance at the meeting Saturday and he also attended a town hall session later that evening and a brunch at KTs Restaurant Sunday.
“It’s obvious that John Cummins has strong, perhaps even unanimous, support from the party members in Vernon-Monashee too,” said Anderson.
Anderson’s campaign team has numerous events planned for the coming months, including an Octoberfest party, town hall meetings, a Christmas party, potluck suppers and daily door-to-door contact with residents of Vernon-Monashee.
He said first act as a new candidate will be to kick off a food drive for the Salvation Army food bank.
