Avalanche kills snowmobiler near Valemount

SAR personnel determined that the scene was too unstable

Valemount RCMP report that on Friday December 30, at 1:21 p.m. police responded to a report of an avalanche in the area of Clemina, southeast of Valemount.

Police were advised that a male on a snowmobile had been caught in the avalanche and died as a result. BC Coroners Office and Search and Rescue (SAR) were immediately notified of the incident. SAR personnel attended and determined that the scene was too unstable and recovery efforts would resume when the scene could be made safe to return.

Avalanche Control from Jasper Alberta have been called to assist SAR. They are schedule to arrive Saturday Dec. 31, to assess the scene and aid police and SAR with the recovery of the deceased male.

The investigation is ongoing and at this time no further information will be released as the recovery efforts continue.
