City was named one of the winning communities of the province’s Open for Business Awards.

Vernon has been recognized for being proactive when it comes to business.

Mayor Akbal Mund has received $10,000 from Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA, after the city was named one of the winning communities of the province’s Open for Business Awards.

“This endorsement from the province of B.C. is a strong indication that Vernon is moving in the right direction in support of local businesses, which provide so much of the city’s economic strength,” said Mund.

“It is my hope that the new council will continue to support and encourage strategies that develop businesses in the community.”

The money will support measures that benefit small business.

“I am very pleased and happy to have been able to present the City of Vernon a cheque for $10,000,” said Foster.

“Vernon is open for business and I am pleased the city has been recognized”

The applications were evaluated based on how the communities enhance small-business competitiveness, recognize the contributions of small businesses to the community, and promote the principles of the B.C. Small Business Accord.
