A 31-year-old North Okanagan man from the Armstrong area is facing potential theft charges after a bait vehicle was activated in Kelowna early Thursday morning.
Kelowna RCMP received a report at 5 a.m. of a bait vehicle activation in the Quail Ridge area. The vehicle was headed southbound into Kelowna and police located it on Highway 97 at Enterprise Way. Officers had the bait vehicle’s engine shut down and apprehended a male suspect nearby.
The Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT) and B.C. RCMP hosted a previously planned press conference Thursday morning in Kelowna to highlight the bait vehicle program, specifically with regards to bait sleds, and the stolen bait vehicle just happened to also have a bait sled with it.
“The bait vehicle program has been proven to work and is an effective tool police can use in the prevention of auto crime as well as the apprehension of criminals,” said Const. Kris Clark with the Kelowna RCMP.
The North Okanagan man remains in custody pending further investigation and faces potential charges of theft of motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
Further charges could be recommended as the investigation unfolds.
