NANAIMO – News Bulletin Newsanators are hosting a beer and burger Wednesday (May 21), featuring silent auction.

The Nanaimo News Bulletin has cooked up tasty event to help raise money for the Mid-Island Walk for ALS.

The News Bulletin Newsanators are hosting a beer and burger and silent auction at The Oxy Pub on Wednesday (May 21) to help raise money for ALS patients and research. All proceeds go to the Mid-Island Walk for ALS on June 8.

The News Bulletin decided to put a team into this year’s walk after publishing a series of articles about Nanaimo’s Serge Vaillancourt, who has Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a fatal and incurable neuromuscular disease.

“Despite the challenges Serge faces, he’s been determined to stay positive and help others,” said reporter Tamara Cunningham. “He inspired us to want to do more for the cause.”

The beer and burger will feature a 50/50 draw, prizes and a silent auction, with items ranging from golf passes, to garden shrubs and gift certificates.

Tickets are $15. The event will run from 6-9:30 p.m. at The Oxy Pub on 432 Fitzwilliam St. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call 250-734-4622 or e-mail news@nanaimobulletin.com.
