Leader reader Dale Adamson says a black bear wandered into his yard on 92A Avenue near 164 Street on Monday.
The hungry bruin apparently plunked down in a sunny patch of the garden to feast on strawberries while a conservation officer was called.
Adamson expected the conservation officer to come and take the bear away.
“But I talked to the conservation officer on the phone and he was in south Langley, 40 minutes away,” said Adamson. “He said the bear would likely just get up and leave when it was finished eating, which it did after about an hour of feasting. He was actually extremely unconcerned on the phone. He was delighted that the bear was feeding on strawberries as they are good for bears.”

It’s been a busy week for conservation officers, who say they are getting a lot of calls about bear sightings in Surrey.
