A sure sign of spring is boat thefts.
On April 23, the Lumby RCMP received a call from a man whose 12-foot aluminum boat was stolen from a beach at Sugar Lake.
“He had the foresight to hide the motor in the woods,” said Cpl. Henry Proce.
“The boat appears to have been pulled into the lake and probably towed to the nearest boat launch and loaded on to a pickup.”
The boat is an older model Baycrest with white trim with a ‘fist’ and ‘right on’ painted on the bow.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Lumby RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
In another matter, a stolen boat was recovered six kilometres up Mabel Lake Road April 25.
The boat had been stolen from a Salmon Arm business April 24 and it had been completely stripped of its throttle linkage, steering components, engine and jet drive before being dumped along the road.
“A possible suspect vehicle involved is a burgundy, mid ‘90s Chev pickup,” said Proce.
“It would appear the thieves towed the Harbourcraft Kingfisher to a residence in that area.”
