Busy year for police detachment

In 2014, the local RCMP generated 28,149 files. That’s up from 27,655 in 2013.

It was another busy year for the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP.

In 2014, the local detachment generated 28,149 files. That’s up from 27,655 in 2013.

“Any phone call that comes in to the police generates a file,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“That could range from a lost wallet to an assault.”

It was also a busy year for the five-member North Okanagan Traffic Services.

Officers handled 109 impaired investigations throughout the North Okanagan, and impounded 78 vehicles for excessive speeding.

The year before, only 25 drivers had vehicles impounded for excessive speed.

“The NOTS members are asking for less impaired drivers and a decrease in excessive speeding this year,” said Molendyk. “They want everyone to stay safe in 2015.”
