Driver taken to hospital after her car crashes through store window in north Nanaimo.

Shoppers were startled when a car crashed through the display window of the Penningtons women’s clothing store in north Nanaimo on Monday.

The cause of the accident, which happened at about 2:40 p.m., is under investigation and the driver, described by emergency crews at the scene as an elderly woman, was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Firefighters were tasked with knocking down large glass shards and the window frame of the storefront, at 6581 Aulds Rd., before the car could be safely towed from the scene.

No one in the store or the parking lot was injured.
