Despite more than a week of wintry weather, the City of Abbotsford is still well under its budget for snow and ice removal this year.
As of Monday morning, the city had spent $710,000 on anti-icing, sanding/salting, and snow plowing. The budget is approximately $1.1 million but rarely approaches that number.
Since 2012 – when the city spent $54,605 more than allocated – spending on winter responses has come in well below budget.
Last year, Abbotsford spent just $306,320, with more than $800,000 returned to city coffers.
Abbotsford has 913 kilometres of roads, with 350 of that designated as “first-priority roadways.”
