City’s parking structure evolves

The final touches on designated downtown parking areas are due to be completed by the end of June

Changes to the parking fee structure in downtown Vernon are near completion

The final touches on designated downtown parking areas, due to be completed by the end of June, will provide options for longer stays at a lower rate for downtown business owners, employees and their customers.

“Crews are in the process of installing a permit dispenser and electrical power along with re-signing and re-painting lines in the 29th Avenue parking lot,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, the city’s communications co-ordinator.

Long-term parking in the Community Services Building (CSB) lot near city hall, the 29th Avenue parking lot, the 25th Avenue parking lot and the parkade have all been approved at a rate of $60 per month.

In addition, the major lots (CSB, 29th Avenue and the parkade) will allow hourly or day use rates at 50 cents per hour or $4 per day — half of the metered rate for on-street parking.

The 29th Avenue lot will be split into two areas: monthly parking and day use, with an on-site permit dispenser to allow the purchase of hourly or day-use permits. Sixty numbered spaces will remain available for monthly parking.
