The Canadian Mental Health Association, South Cariboo Branch (CMHA) held its annual general meeting on June 29, and elected its board of directors.

Association president MJ Cousins says the installation of officers will follow at a later board meeting.

This year’s Volunteer of the Year award went to Liz Christensen, she adds, and other volunteers were also recognized, with the board expressing its appreciation.

PMT Accounting owner Keith Greenhalsh presented the audited financial statements.

Cousins says the CMHA’s vision statement is “mentally healthy people in a healthy society.”

The association promotes mental health of all, supports recovery through advocacy, education, community research and service, she explains, and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness.

The elected 2011 board members are Cousins, Marianne Reid, Carrol Austin, Carolyn Mlieczko, Brian Blake, Marie Weeden, Tom Bachynski, Dave MacLeod, Didi Henderson and Valinda Boyd.

The branch runs many programs in the South Cariboo, Cousins notes, and encourages people to call CMHA at 250-395-4883 for assistance or more information.
