Coast Tsimshian Resources, a Northwestern BC forestry company wholly owned by the Lax Kw’alaams First Nation, has won the 2011 Tech GREEN Company Award of the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC.
James Bryant, a Lax Kw’alaams Elder, accepted the award on behalf of Coast Tsimshian Resources, at the annual ASTTBC Technology Awards & Recognition Celebration, Nov. 5, at the Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Vancouver Hotel.
“TechGREEN awards are presented to organizations, business and individuals that have a significant positive impact on green living, sustainable best practices, energy conservation and environmental benefit,” explains John Leech, AScT, CAE, Executive Director of the 9,500 member ASTTBC.
“Coast Tsimshian Resources are applying carbon sequestration, bio-energy fuels and other sustainable options, to ensure diversity and resilience within the forest and the economy,” Mr. Leech commented.
“The vision, commitment and values of the Lax Kw’alaams people has been a driving factor behind the company’s investments in applied research and technology development for climate change adaptation and sustainable management.”
“We very much appreciate the recognition for our work based upon the core values of the Lax Kw’alaams members, who have entrusted us to manage responsibly,” said company chief executive officer Wayne Drury.
“This award is a result of the very hard work of our staff and contract community to build a forest company of which we are all extremely proud.”
The ASTTBC TechGREEN Award is the third major corporate award recently captured by Coast Tsimshian Resources. The company’s operations gained Community Business honours at the 2010 BC Aboriginal Business Awards, and at the Prince George-based Northern BC Business and Technology Awards this January.
Coast Tsimshian Resources’ woodlands are located within close proximity to the Ports of Prince Rupert, Kitimat, and Stewart. Their primary products are Hemlock, Coastal Balsam, Western Red Cedar and Sitka Spruce.
