Investigators are searching for a missing man who reportedly jumped into Revelstoke Lake and never resurfaced.
On Wednesday at 7:33 p.m., the B.C. Ambulance Service and the Revelstoke RCMP responded to a report of a missing swimmer.
“The 28-year-old male from Coldstream apparently jumped off the Laforme Creek bridge into the lake and never resurfaced,” said Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky, officer in charge of the Revelstoke RCMP.
The Laforme Creek Bridge, which is 20 kilometres north of the Revelstoke Dam on Highway 23, is estimated to be 80 feet above the water which is about 50 feet deep at that location.
“Revelstoke RCMP, with assistance from Revelstoke Search and Rescue, immediately commenced a search of the area for any signs of the man which included the use of an RCMP vessel,” said Grabinsky.
At 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, the police search was suspended due to darkness but it continued Thursday morning.
“The RCMP helicopter flew this (Thursday) morning with no success,” said Grabinsky.
“The RCMP vessel is in the area searching the water and the shoreline. The dive team is suspected to arrive later.”
