Collision results in death

A 71-year-old man injured in a two-vehicle collision in Chemainus on Aug. 25 died in hospital on Sept. 1.

A 71-year-old man injured in a two-vehicle collision in Chemainus on Aug. 25 died in hospital on Sept. 1. The man was the driver of a GMC Sonoma pickup that collided with a Purolator truck from Victoria at about 9:30 p.m.

According to an RCMP media release, witnesses said the pickup was making a left-hand turn when it was struck by the Purolator truck, which was travelling north on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The two other occupants of the pickup, a 43-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man, were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

No charges have been laid regarding this crash.

Cowichan Valley RCMP Victim Services are assisting those affected by this tragedy, said Const. Krista Hobday, media relations officer for the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.

An integrated collision analyst will be forwarding a report on the incident in the near future.
