Investigations with a scanner revealed a leaking supply pipe under the unit, damaged as a result of repair work to reinforce drains, completed during the extended summer shutdown.
Crews were able to access and repair the damaged pipe through a drain and have poured concrete to seal up the area. The concrete will need to time to cure before the pool can be refilled, heated and opened to the public.
Bregje Kozak, manager of facilities, said Stuart Olson Dominion Construction, the contractor that completed the $28-million reconstruction of the pool in 2011, has been taking care of the work at no charge to the city.
The hot tub closure doesn’t affect other parts of the pool complex, which are operating as normal.
