Community music program “Sing Me A Song”launched

“Sing Me A Song” is an opportunity for musical groups of all ages and genres to write and sing an original song

VICTORIA – The Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, is pleased to launch the second season of her music program to promote community spirit across the province.

“Sing Me A Song” is an opportunity for musical groups of all ages and genres to write and sing an original song in the lead up to Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations in 2017. Groups are encouraged to write a song about what Canada’s sesquicentennial means to them or their community.

“The entries we received for the first season were outstanding and showed that community pride is alive and well in British Columbia,” said the Lieutenant Governor. “We are looking forward to this next phase of the program and showcasing the great musical talent found across the province.”

Each entry will be reviewed by a panel of musicians from around the province and an award of $1,000 will be granted annually in each of three age categories. Whether it is a school or community choir or other amateur musical group, all submissions must have a minimum of eight voices and musical accompaniment is welcome.

Each song must be original content, no longer than five minutes in length, and be based on the Canada 150 themes. For younger age groups, adults may assist in the creation of the musical content. Musicality, spirit, and originality are highly encouraged. For more information and to enter, visit: www.ltgov.bc.ca

Entries for the 2015 competition are due by March 31, 2015.
