Coquihalla highway re-opened Feb. 22

Avalanche control and overnight snow clearing resulted in opening

The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt was re-opened today (Feb. 22) to traffic, following the completion of avalanche control and highway

clearing work.

An assessment this morning by avalanche technicians determined the avalanche control activities carried out Feb. 21 were successful. Highway maintenance crews worked throughout the evening to clear the highway.

The busy transportation corridor was closed due to a storm cycle that created avalanche conditions not seen in the 27-year history of the Coquihalla Highway.

When planning a trip, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure advises drivers to check drivebc.ca for the most up-to-date highway information, and for tips on safe winter driving preparedness.
