Cotter rink earns praise for Brier performance

Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund gives credit to the Vernon/Kelowna team

Mayor Akbal Mund has recognized Vernon’s Jim Cotter and his rink for their performance at the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier in Calgary.

“I would like to congratulate the Jim Cotter foursome — Rick Sawatsky lead, Tyrel Griffith second, Ryan Kuhn third, alternate Grant Olsen, and coach Pat Ryan — on their tremendous showing at the Brier,” said Mund.

“After winning the provincial crown a few weeks ago in Vernon, the Cotter rink was in tough at the Canadian Championships, up against former Canadian and World champions, and where the province of B.C. has only won four previous times since the Brier was first held in 1927.  We are proud you represented B.C. for a fifth time at the Brier.”

Mund was in Calgary for the final three days of the Brier to cheer on Cotter’s team.

Steve Laycock of Saskatchewan defeated Cotter’s rink 4-2 Friday morning. The Brier title was won by Team Canada Sunday.
