Cougar kills livestock near Prospect Lake

Two sheep and one goat were killed by a cougar sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning

Two sheep and one goat were killed by a cougar sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at a farm in the 4400-block of Prospect Lake Rd.

Saanich pound and B.C. Conservation officers responded and conducted a search of the area but didn’t find the animal.

Saanich has had numerous cougar sightings this summer, in the Interurban area and near UVic, but this is the first report of livestock being killed.

On Aug. 21, police and conservation officers investigated several livestock killings in Central Saanich attributed to cougar attacks. Seven goats at a farm on Puckle Road and a sheep from a farm on Welch Road were found dead overnight.
