Court date for accused in West Shore RCMP member’s crash death delayed again

Kenneth Jacob Fenton now scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 5

Kenneth Jacob “Jake” Fenton, who was scheduled to appear in court Thursday(Nov. 24) to be arraigned on charges relating to the April 5 vehicle crash death of West Shore RCMP Const. Sarah Beckett, has had his appearance date pushed back again.

Fenton is now scheduled for a Jan. 5 court date at 9 a.m. in Western Communities Provincial Court in Colwood.

Beckett, a married mother of two children, was killed when a large pickup truck hit her police cruiser on the driver’s side at the intersection of Peatt Road and Goldstream Avenue in Langford. Few details about the circumstances leading up to the crash have been officially revealed, except that police had tried to stop the driver of the truck prior to the collision.

The Independent Investigation Office has been looking into the crash and the police involvement in the incident, but has not yet released its report.
