Aug. 25 will be a day of partying and promoting the concept of a new arts and culture centre on Canyon Street and 15th Avenue.
“We have all sorts of events planned,” Friends of the Ingham Arts and Culture Centre Society president Simon Lazarchuk said on Wednesday. “We will have live music, including Fat Charlie, food (including a ‘humongous’ barbecue) and plenty of other entertainment.”
Public awareness and support is needed to push renovations to the building being purchased from the Ingham family. Lazarchuk said that applications for grants have been sent out and that support from regional directors and the Town of Creston has been strong.
“But it’s a big challenge,” he admitted.
Payments on the mortgage begin in September and funds must be raised to transform the building into a suitable venue for art displays and activities and cultural events.
“We will be selling memberships and providing information about the plans we have in place,” he said. “We will also be listening to residents about how they feel about an arts and culture.”
The Saturday event, appropriately, has been dubbed Feel the Pulse.
“We have lots of irons in the fire,” Lazarchuk said. “Now it’s up to us to generate enthusiasm and support to move this exciting project forward.”
Feel the Pulse will run from 12-7 p.m. on Aug. 25.
