Creston RCMP responded to 78 calls for service from Dec. 14-20, a week in which motor vehicle accidents, shoplifting and cheetah reports dominated the news, Staff Sgt. Darryl Hammond said on Monday.
December 14
•A vehicle sustained damage to the hood and bumper in a hit and run in a 1500 block of Cook Street parking lot.
•A 22nd Avenue South resident was found to be using licence plates on a different vehicle.
•An ongoing dispute regarding business records in Crawford Bay was reported.
•Police assisted Cranbrook RCMP with a warrant on Balsam Road.
•A minor collision occurred in a Cook Street parking lot when a driver opened a vehicle door.
•A shoplifter was reported in the 1000 block of Northwest Boulevard.
•A concrete post was broken off in the 200 block of Sixth Avenue North when an elderly male driver backed into it and then drove off.
•A Good Samaritan prevented an accident when he saw a neighbour’s vehicle start to roll down a hill. He was able to stop the vehicle before it hit anything.
•Police located a male reported to be driving erratically on Highway 3A but he was not impaired.
•Another shoplifting incident was reported in the 1000 block of Northwest Boulevard.
•A driver lost control of his vehicle on an icy Highway 3 near Irishman Creek Bridge. The vehicle went off the road, hit a rock bluff and then bounced back onto the highway. Occupants had to be cut out of the vehicle by a rescue crew and some sustained injuries.
•A Riley Road resident was found to have breached court conditions. He was arrested, charged and held for a court appearance.
December 15
•A landlord-tenant dispute was reported in the 16000 block of Highway 3A.
•Police conducted a well-being check on Ninth Avenue South.
•When police investigated a report of a possible child abduction on 18th Avenue South they determined the driver of the vehicle was the girl’s relative and the school was aware he was picking her up.
•The possible theft of a gold pocket watch was reported on 24th Avenue North.
•Store employees chased a shoplifter from a Cook Street store, then managed to take his photo. The suspect reported himself to police as a result.
•A vehicle parked in the community complex parking lot was sprayed with green paint.
December 16
•A Dewalt miter saw was reported stolen from a 14th Avenue North residence.
•A Mallory Road resident was reportedly attacked by a dog, which also chased her dogs and horses. The SPCA and regional district have been notified.
•Gold paint was sprayed on the rear of a vehicle parked on Seventh Avenue North.
•A Murdoch Street resident reported a youth was knocking on the door and running off. Also, glass bottles have been broken in the driveway.
•A cellphone was found on Elm Street.
December 17
•A motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 3 was reported to Alberta police.
•Trees were reportedly cut down near Reclamation Road.
•When police conducted a well-being check in the 3000 block of Erickson Road they found the resident was already in the hospital.
•A wallet was reported lost in 1100 block of Vancouver Street.
•Car keys were stolen during a dispute over cash in the 16000 block of Highway 3.
•An erratic driver reported on Highway 3 near Yahk was not located.
•An erratic driver was reported on Highway 21 at Mallory Road.
•A cheetah was photographed and reported to be running at large in the Crawford Bay area.
•A vehicle ran a red light at 16th Avenue and Canyon Street.
•Police conducted a well-being check on Northwest Boulevard, where the female in question was found to be OK.
•Police notified a Helen Street resident about the death of a relative in Ontario.
December 18
•An assault was reported in the 2700 block of Highway 3 but the victim did not want to co-operate with the laying of charges. Police believe it was the same perpetrator who assaulted another person shortly afterward. Police tracked him in the snow and arrested him, and charges are pending.
•Minor damage occurred in a collision at Canyon Street and 10th Avenue.
•Two shoplifters were identified at a Northwest Boulevard business. One, a previous offender, has been banned from the store.
•A single vehicle accident took place in icy conditions in the 2400 block of Highway 3A. When a second vehicle stopped at the scene a third driver went off the road in an attempt to avoid a crash.
•Another vehicle went into the ditch in the 4000 block of Highway 3.
•A driver lost control of his vehicle on an icy Reclamation Road and it rolled into the irrigation ditch.
December 19
•An injured elk was reported on the highway north of Yahk.
•Another vehicle went off Reclamation Road in icy conditions.
•A Scott Street resident reported that a company purportedly out of Las Vegas did remote “repairs” to his computer, for which he paid the bill. Then another company said they had done the work and demanded payment for same.
•During a break and entry to a residence in the 4100 block of Erickson Road, thieves took only cash, ignoring other valuables.
•A stop check in the 1900 block of Highway 3 led to the seizure of a small amount of marijuana.
December 20
•A 31-year-old died in his Lister home, apparently of ongoing health issues.
•A theft of gas from a vehicle was reported on 20th Avenue South.
•Police received two reports about a suspicious person on 18th Avenue South but did not locate a suspect.
