Creston Valley Farmers’ Market sets first 2016 dates

Creston Valley Farmers’ Market getting closer to becoming year-round with monthly dates from January through April...

Four dates have been scheduled to kick off the 2016 Creston Valley Farmers’ Market season, said manager Jen Comer.

Jan. 10 has been selected as the first market date of the year, to be followed by Feb. 7, March 6 and April 3. Those markets will once again be held at the Creston and District Community Complex, with a change from the traditional morning time to 1-4 p.m.

“We have a total of 38 market days scheduled for 2016, so we are gradually working toward being a weekly year-round market,” Comer said.

Regular outdoor markets behind the Creston Valley Chamber of Commerce will start on May 7 and run through Sept. 24.

Comer said that 2015 was a successful one, with vendors and visitors continuing to increase. The final market of the year on Saturday attracted 39 vendors, which included 11 farmers, five “prepared foodies”, 20 artisans, two wineries and William Tell cidery, which introduced Creston’s first hard (alcoholic) apple cider to appreciative customers.

“We have built a very strong base of regular vendors, many of whom attend virtually every market throughout the year,” Comer said. “And one-off, or irregular vendors, are always welcome because they help keep the interest in the community strong.”
