Fire crews were called out after smoke and flames were reported at a homeless camp in Abbotsford on Saturday.

Quick action by fire crews prevented a homeless camp from going up in flames on Saturday.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service crews were called just before 5 p.m. that day to the area of Peardonville Road and Livingstone Avenue.

When they arrived, smoke and flames were coming from a treed area where there is a large homeless camp.

The fire was starting to spread to the trees, but crews quickly knocked down the flames and hosed down the area.

Firefighters also had to contend with homemade booby traps – several sharpened sticks placed in the ground – as they entered the area.
