Vernon residents are being warned about a crime wave.
Since Feb. 1, there have been 28 thefts from vehicles reported to the local RCMP detachment.
“All but one of them have been in the City of Vernon. The thefts are not confined to just one area of the city but all over,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
“Our officers responding to the investigations are finding that vehicle owners are leaving their vehicles unlocked with items that attract thieves left in view.”
The police are asking owners to be more diligent in not leaving items in plain view and to lock up their vehicles.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity in their area, like early morning visits from someone you do not recognize or on a bike that appears to be checking vehicles, is asked to call the RCMP immediately.
