‘The Dark Side’ has a glow about it.

After receiving 20 cms of snow Friday, Silver Star Mountain Resort opened its Putnam Creek area.

Featuring more than 30 black daimond runs, Putnam Creek is known to locals as “The Dark Side.”

The area features its own high-speed lift (Powder Gulch Express) and has it all – immaculate groomers, zipperline moguls and narrow chutes.

“Every year the Putnam Creek opening is widely anticipated as the powder collects while it’s closed,” said Brad Baker, Silver Star’s operations manager.

“We had several skiers race off the chair this (Friday) morning to be the first on The Dark Side, as you can usually ski two or three laps without crossing another track.”

Baker called Friday “one of the best, if not the best, openings of Putnam I’ve had in 22 years (at the Star).”

As of Friday afternoon, Silver Star had a 133-cm base, and had the most ski terrain open in the B.C. Interior at 112 out of 115 runs.
