Mark Neill and Patrick Oystryk of the city's planning department were at Canada Day celebrations to talk with residents about Abbotsford's plans for the future.

Residents hoping to provide input on the future of Abbotsford still have time to apply to a citizen’s commission focused on planning for the city’s development.

The deadline has been extended to July 18 for residents to apply to the citizen advisory commission for the Abbotsforward project.

Abbotsforward, the city’s official community plan (OCP) update, will bring together a group of community members to review land use policy, help with community engagement and give feedback on new planning ideas.

The new OCP will guide how future development occurs in different areas of the city as the population continues to expand, as well as outlining where parks and trails will be located, where different densities of housing will be, how transit and active transportation opportunity will expand, and how commercial, industrial and agricultural development will be supported.

Applications can be found at www.abbotsford.ca/committeeapplication.
