It’s going to cost more at the dump.
As of Jan. 2, recycling and disposal fees are changing at the Regional District of North Okanagan’s landfills.
There will be an increase in the regular refuse disposal fee from $93 to $95 a tonne.
The fee for construction and demolition waste will increase from $184 to $200 a tonne, while the fee for disposing of refuse containing regulated material (asphalt roofing, yard waste, glass, scrap metal and blue bag recyclables) will climb from $184 to $200 a tonne.
The disposal fee for refuse containing drywall will increase from $279 to $300 a tonne, and the fee for mixed residential waste will increase from $64 to $66 a tonne.
Minimum charges for regular refuse, yard and garden waste, wood and metal will all increase from $3 to $4. The per tonne recycling and disposal fee for these products remains the same.
In 2015, $14 per tonne of municipal solid waste disposed at all landfills will be set aside in the closure/post-closure reserve.
In addition, $5 per tonne disposed will continue to be allocated to a sustaining capital reserve.
