Duteau Creek shut off as Greater Vernon water source

The Regional District of North Okanagan decided Friday to switch Duteau customers over to the Kalamalka Lake source

Duteau Creek has been turned off as a water source in Greater Vernon.

The Regional District of North Okanagan decided Friday to switch Duteau customers over to the Kalamalka Lake source.

“The decision to remove the Duteau Creek water source was based on high turbidity that could compromise the ability to treat the water to drinking water standards,” said Renee Clark, water quality manager.

“Staff is investigating the cause and will inform customers as soon as information becomes available. Water will be supplied from the Mission Hill water treatment plant until further notice.”

With the change in source water, there are no health related affects to our customers.

“Due to capacity reasons, all customers are being asked not to use water outdoors and to minimize all water use until further notice,” said Clark.

“All irrigation watering is restricted at this time to ensure water pressure and quantity is adequate for all customers.

Customers will be informed when the Duteau Creek water source is turned back on.
