Predator Ridge will be the site of wildfire preparedness activities Saturday.

Vernon residents can learn more about protecting their homes from wildfire.

Predator Ridge will be the site of wildfire preparedness activities Saturday.

“The event will feature a FireSmart information session by the Ministry of Forests’ protection branch, demonstrating the tasks that need to be performed as part of becoming a FireSmart community,” said Keith Green, Vernon fire chief.

The Predator Ridge Community Emergency Management Committee is hosting Wildfire Preparedness Day beginning at 8 a.m. Directions  to the event will be available at Predator Ridge fire hall.

“PRCEMC has embraced the FireSmart concept of being prepared, knowing that preparedness is critical in diminishing the risk of any damage or threat to life that their community could experience as a result of a wildfire,” said Green.

“They intend to build on the events of the day and hope to encourage other members of the community to FireSmart their properties.”

Also on Saturday, the public can attend the grand opening of the Predator Ridge fire hall from noon to 2 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m.
