Extreme weather shelter reopens

Out of the Cold shelter at the Salvation Army Lighthouse Resource Centre in Port Hardy opens for the season.

With the summer indisputably over and temperatures falling, BC Housing has authorized the opening of the local Extreme Weather Shelter in Port Hardy.

An Extreme Weather Alert for the Mount Waddington area was issued last week, signalling the reopening of the Out of the Cold shelter at the Salvation Army Lighthouse Resource Centre.

The shelter, open daily from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., provides an important resource, offering a safe haven for homeless and at risk individuals who would otherwise have to contend with frigid winter conditions.

The shelter is scheduled to be open nightly from now until March 31 and is located at 8635 Granville Street with the entrance at the rear of the building.
