Feb. 15, 1965 was the first time the Canadian maple leaf flag was raised above Parliament Hill.

“It took many years of discussion and more than 2,600 submissions of possible designs were examined before an agreement was reached,” said Fran Nikon, with Falkland’s I Care campaign.

On Saturday, businesses in Falkland will hand out stickers, tattoos and flag pins to bring attention to the flag’s birthday.
