Farm Friends program harvests funding

The provincial government is providing $89,750 to the Mental Illness Family Support Centre

Families and residents in Vernon with mental health and substance use issues will receive increased support.

The provincial government is providing $89,750 to the Mental Illness Family Support Centre and its Farm Friends program.

“This funding will go to good use directly helping individuals and families in our community affected by mental illness and substance abuse,” said Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA.

Farm Friends helps those affected by mental illness and substance abuse issues through gardening and hands-on activities. The program is located at Patchwork Farms at Okanagan College’s Vernon campus.

“The Farm Friends program ensures participants and their families get support they need, while they develop and gain new skills gardening, build new relationships with teammates, and have fun outdoors,” said Foster.
