No one was injured in a fire that destroyed an unoccupied Chilliwack home early Friday night.

But the family’s pet dog died in the fire that ripped through the home in the 46000-block Brooks Ave. at about 6 p.m.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by police and fire officials.

Assistant Fire Chief Ian Josephson said fortunately the tenants had left the house earlier Friday, but the dog was not so lucky.

He said one-storey, single-family home was fully involved when fire crews arrived and flames were “rolling out the front windows.”

“Fire crews managed to knock the fire down quickly to prevent the fire from extending into a detached garage located at the back of the property,” he said.

There was extensive fire, smoke and water damage to most of the house.

The investigation into the cause continued Monday.
