After six years of intense lobbying, the struggle to turn the north shore of Nanoose Harbour into  firearm free zone had finally paid off. The closure will be in effect on the north shore of Nanoose Harbour extending from the 34-hectare Qualicum National Wildlife area to the Department of National Defense land and reaches from the high water mark out 400 metres onto shore.

• The Regional District of Nanaimo received a request for approval of a shared interest land sale including approximately 3,000 acres surrounding Horne Lake. The proposal sale is an agreement between the Horne Lake License Holders Association and Texada Land Corporation, which owns the lands around the lake.

• Fishermen who violated clam regulations during the recent commercial openings continue to clog Parksville courts. The Crown had to hire an interpreter to explain charges to a group of Vietnamese diggers who pleaded guilty to violations.
