Five Port Alberni residents have been charged after allegedly assaulting a 44-year-old Port Alberni man over a three-day period.
Charges of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, assault and possession of a weapon, as well as a few other related charges, have been laid against Angela Forsberg, 43, John Vandermeer, 56, Jimmy David McKay, 44, Margaret Emily Fred, 22, and Daniel David Bird, 37.
The arrests were made on Feb. 7 after the Port Alberni RCMP executed a search warrant on an apartment in the 4900 block of Angus St. A firearm and ammunition were seized.
On Jan. 28, RCMP members became aware of a violent offence involving a weapon that had taken place in the apartment between Jan. 24-27.
It is alleged that the victim had been seriously assaulted over the three-day period receiving significant non-life threatening injuries while being forcibly confined by five other Port Alberni residents.
McKay and Forsberg have been remanded in custody until Feb. 15 and Bird is remanded until Feb. 22. Fred and Vandermeer were released and will appear in court on March. 8.
The Port Alberni RCMP have no further comment on this matter, as it is before the courts.
