Two adults and three children were lucky that cellphone coverage was available Saturday night from their sinking boat near Denman Island.

Unable to use their marine radio because of water that had infiltrated their 50-foot wooden former fishing boat, the quintet managed to call 9-1-1.

Two men on a commercial fishing boat rescued them from their 45-year-old vessel, according to a media report.

The five did not go to hospital.

It’s not known why the boat began to sink or where the five people are from.
