It appeared to be a fairly normal lunch hour at Central City Shopping Centre in Surrey Thursday afternoon.

Until the music started – and a small group of kids suddenly shed their coats and jackets to reveal bright green shirts with the words Go Green on the front.

Then the dancing started, to Katy Pary’s hit song Fireworks. And more children joined in. And more. And more.

Soon a long stretch of the shopping centre was filled with a sea of about 580 of the green-shirted dancers, spinning and clapping and waving their arms to the song, while onlookers watched from the sidelines and from balconies above.

The dancers were all students from Surrey’s Chimney Hill Elementary hoping to spread a positive message about preserving the planet. The kids had been working on the performance for about four months.
